Hak Etme - Rules

Hak Etme is a vast, arid desert stretching for days in every direction, its terrain dominated by flat, cracked expanses of bleached earth and rolling fields of pale sand dunes. The landscape is largely devoid of life and colour, washed in shades of white and beige, and broken only by the scattered remains of massive, long-dead creatures whose skeletons rise from the ground in varying states of exposure. Travel across the desert is slow and taxing, typically taking about a week to cross on foot, with little natural shelter or reliable landmarks beyond distant horizons and the occasional skeletal formation. Rain is rare, but when it comes, it transforms the region entirely: within a short span of time, flowers bloom across the desert floor and the sands shift into bands of vivid, prismatic colour, creating a temporary and striking contrast to the otherwise stark environment before fading once more back into its usual desolation.

The Furnace
The Furnace is a vast expanse of hard-packed white earth that stretches in every direction, its surface cracked into thin, spidery patterns that crunch underfoot, with no sand or loose soil to disturb. The land is completely flat and open, offering no shelter or elevation, and the horizon sits far and uninterrupted except for faint, distant silhouettes that never seem to draw closer. Scattered across the ground are sun-bleached skeletons of varying sizes, from small animal remains to larger ribcages and skulls, all preserved by the intense, dry heat. The air shimmers constantly, warping the distance with mirages that suggest movement or shape but never resolve, leaving the entire area exposed, disorienting, and impossible to navigate by sight alone.
Boneyard
The Boneyard, lying north of the Furnace in Hak Etme, is a vast stretch of pale desert where massive skeletons lie half-buried in the sand, their size ranging from small, scattered remains to enormous ribcages and skulls large enough for people to walk through. Many of the largest carcasses resemble long-necked or draconic creatures, their spines and ribs exposed in sweeping arcs that break up the otherwise flat terrain, while smaller bones and fragments fill the spaces between. The sand shifts around them, partially covering limbs and vertebrae so that some skeletons appear whole while others emerge in pieces, creating uneven ground shaped by bone as much as by desert. There is no clear boundary to the area, only more remains stretching outward in every direction, giving the impression of a single, mass exodus frozen in place.

Sunshine Pools
The Sunshine Pools are a cluster of vividly blue sulfuric pools dispersed throughout the sand dunes, ranging from small basins to large, lake-sized bodies that dominate the surrounding ground. Their surfaces bubble continuously, releasing faint steam and a strong, unmistakable rotten-egg smell that hangs in the air. Thick rims of white and yellow mineral crystals build up unevenly around each pool, forming hard, brittle edges against the surrounding sand and crusted flats. The pools are spaced irregularly across the landscape, their bright colour sharply contrasting the otherwise white, barren desert, while the constant bubbling and mineral buildup make it clear the water is toxic and unfit for consumption.

Sea of Dreams
The Sea of Dreams in Hak Etme is a vast expanse of pure white salt flats stretching uninterrupted to the horizon, the ground hard and crusted underfoot and glaringly bright in daylight. The surface is dry and powdery in places, kicking up fine white dust with movement, while strong desert winds can drive it into dense storms that obscure visibility and distort direction. Crossing the flats offers no cover or landmarks, and the salted ground steadily pulls moisture from anything exposed to it. After rainfall, a thin layer of water settles across the surface, turning the flats into a mirror that reflects the sky so completely that the boundary between ground and horizon becomes difficult to distinguish.

Suvahasi
The Suvahasi lies along the easternmost edge of Hak Etme, where the events of the Second War caused the growth of the Greatwood to spill unnaturally into the desert, creating a sharp and immediate transition from white sand to dense and occasionally toxic jungle. The boundary is abrupt, with dunes giving way within a short distance to thick, overgrown vegetation that stretches for miles, forming a wide oasis of tangled plant life. Growth here is uneven and layered, with low, sprawling underbrush, dense flowering plants, and clusters of tall, broad-canopied trees rising above the rest, creating a crowded and difficult terrain to navigate. The heat of Hak Etme lingers within the greenery, combining with the dense flora to trap humidity and intensify the environment. Movement through the area can disturb the surrounding plants, releasing visible plumes of pollen - some harmless, others hallucinogenic or poisonous - making even a brief passage through the Suvahasi potentially disorienting despite its lush and seemingly welcoming appearance.
