The first place that Tal had gone after they'd killed the Ursur was to find and hug all three of his sisters and Boreal. The second place he'd gone was to the Shrine in the Citadel, dragon sticking close to his side, to thank his lucky... well, maybe not stars in this particular instance. Lucky bones?

Lucky something, because there had been a bad moment there where it had looked like he was going to be seeing Mort the old-fashioned way.

Since the kindly god of death hadn't seemed to want his memories last time, Tal had brought a fluffy white ursur-wool scarf that was brand new. Because maybe gods got cold and maybe they didn't, but if he was calling on them in Halo he figured it was at least polite to try and make them more comfortable there.

He knelt in front of the altar, steadying himself against the rapid beating of his heart, and slung an arm around the glacial-pale dragon that leaned hard against his side.

"Hey, Mort? I think... I think I did what y'asked," the courier began hesitantly. "I mean, I've had some bad luck an' some good luck an' I'm hopin' it's enough?" Because if the encounter with the Voidshade Ursur had taught him anything, it was that he desperately needed more of the good and less of the crit fails bad! "Can y'put luck into somethin'? Like... like an earring, maybe?"

what makes a desert beautiful...is that it hides a well, somewhere
As it had last time, fingers of golden sunlight would cut through the frost and grey-bright Halo skies as a grove of ancient oaks rose slowly around. The noise of the Citadel would fade, leaving only the courier's too-fast heartbeat and the sound of his voice made small by the towering trees. "Hello Talyson." Appearing as his other half often did, simply becoming part of the scene rather than stepping into it, the God of Death smiled warmly at the courier from where he was seated upon the shrine. Glancing at the ursur fur the lines around Mort's eyes deepened, making him look suddenly so much older despite the youthful smile on his lips.

"Only a fool seeks to bribe death." He says, laughing. "Not that I think you a fool or that this is a bribe, but I can promise you that it isn't necessary." Letting his fingers softly touch the scarf, he smiles before lifting his dark eyes to the Messenger.  "If anything, I have something for you." So saying he reached into his pocket plucking out a small black charm in the shape of a wishbone on the end of an earring.

Talyson has received

Lucky you | A wishbone earring blessed by Mort, that when worn grants +5 luck. Must be included in all PQ/PQ+/KQ/DROP posts to be counted.

It was weird and wonderful and oddly reassuring to feel the bustle of the Citadel falling away as the trees faded in, their silent age and towering tranquility somehow more real than the busy streets of the Halovian capital. Tal's arm tightened around his dragon, who crooned and swept her tail around him reassuringly. The companion had no fear of what was to come, only innocent curiosity and excitement over what shrine visits usually meant.

Presents. And sometimes treats.

Mort's voice was as warm as Halo was cold, and Tal heaved a big sigh of relief as he looked up at the god with a tentative grin--

That faltered a little under the kindly correction to his offering etiquette. The courier blushed from the tips of his ears all the way down to his shoulders as he ducked his head and hugged his dragon harder. "Sorry," he mumbled. "I'm, uh. Still gettin' used t'this..." he trailed off helplessly, not really sure how to phrase having his prayers answered by the god of death himself[/i] without sounding like the very fool that Mort was trying not to label him as. Instead the Messenger hurriedly cleared his throat, but before he could try again a gift was indeed given and he reached out for it hurriedly with cupped hands, pale eyes shining. [b]"Holy sh--uh, shucks? It's perfect!" And proving the existence of miracles, he managed to slip it into place without fumbling and dropping it or stabbing himself in the eye. "Thanks, Mort!"

Boreal chortled in approval of the new bangle and bumped Tal's chest with her head, almost knocking him backwards as he grabbed at her for balance and grinned up at Mort, almost giddy with relief and excitement for the item. He could swear that he felt luckier already!
