I've been looking for Soh. Koa feels his blood run cold, the words having a cruelly sobering effect. She was still alive. Tal doesn't know - didn't hear about Koa's failure, about the darkest chapter in his short life. But--
"She's alive?" His voice is hoarse and desperate, his copper eyes a little wild as he stares intently at Tal. He shakes his head at Tal's current process, feeling its fruitlessness in his soul. "She won't be in the Greatwood, because they took her."
And then he launches into a tired explanation of the things he knows, of Sohalia's theft and his own exile. And so the tone of the night changes, with conspiracies and theories shared between them, suspicions brought into firelight. It feels good to share the things he knows and doesn't, to compare notes about their searches.
It feels good, in these uncertain times, to have a proper friend.
{fin!}
