Soh smiled, proud of herself in spite of her inner panic. "Thanks," she said. "I've had lots of practice. It's the one thing that makes my maps stand out, you know?" She was babbling, but she couldn't seem to stop herself. "The animals are my favorite, but some of them are, uh, less than pleased at being sketched?" She laughed a little. "Or they're dangerous, or practically impossible to find. Plants are easier, but, well..." She shrugged. "Not quite as fun."
Koa made to turn another page and Soh's fingers twitched, aching to snatch the notebook back but not quite wanting to keep secrets - even something as innocent as what was in her sketchbook. But he paused, and Soh looked up into copper eyes. "Of course," she said with an affectionate smile. "I'm shocked she kept it." Gods, but that was so long ago. "If she wants an updated version, I'm happy to oblige."
Thinking back to the early days, when things were easy, Soh couldn't help but giggle. "D'you remember when we met?" she asked. "I thought you were trying to throw poor Pip off the side of the city."
