Chuckling at his misery, Thal throws Asta an amused look, letting him wallow in the dramatic inevitability of time. Her alcohol tastes a little sweeter through the smile she wears, but it doesn't last long. Disgust pulls at the expression, rolling her eyes at the lightning splitting the sky before explaining her history with the man in question.
"Well, a few years ago, this guy set a trap outside the Winter Ball - you remember the one Maea threw?" She has no doubt he does, especially with everything that went down. "I tried to outsmart him by throwing a shoe, but I was drunk and he hunted me down for the meager gold, spinning me in a cyclone of air before leaving me cold, wet, and nauseous in the snow without so much as a glance or muttered apology." She'd thought it was some cruel joke, a mean trick just to see who he could make a fool of - neither of which her pride had appreciated.
Tilting her head, Thal recalls their next meeting. "Then I helped clear out some of the Vampire Gourds. I hadn't realized he was the one leading the group, but even after doing my part, he refused to tell me his name." A petty choice if she was being asked. "And then, I had to help someone I didn't like for a quest, so I risked freezing to help him find a few idiot trackers who got lost. Saved a girl bleeding out." She shrugs her shoulders dismissively. "He thanked me, but still never told me his name." His appreciation had been warmer than the flare of his fire despite it's flat delivery; still, it wasn't enough to convince her he had any respect for her, or that he wouldn't pass up an opportunity to slap her around for the fun of it.
"Seems like the kind of haughty asshole who needs to be knocked down a peg," she sneers, taking another sip of her whiskey to wash some of the bitterness from her mouth.
