Kipper
The question to Sunjata returned like a mirror’s reflection: Was Kipper being kept from doing something? Was Sunjata keeping Kipper from his work? It puzzled Kip, his bushy brows pushing forward gently, his dark eyes scanning Sunjata for a reason to say such a thing. He was unaware of the small hum upon exhale, like some large bear mulling over something important.
Why should that matter? Sunjata should not be concerned about whether he was wasting his time or not? Why should that kindness be extended to Kip?
Sunjata was too kind.
Kipper should know this by now.
His lips pursed, as if trying to figure out how to explain exactly that to the other, but he was unable to formulate the appropriate words; unable to formulate anything for several moments. Confused, or taken aback, Kipper cleaned up around him, collecting and bunching up the small cloth to tie to his staff, and slowly gathering himself to stand.
A pause.
Maybe Kip did not understand.
“Never, but I could walk you to the edge of the Barrows, if you wish company.” Pulling up his cloak, his sturdy frame and shrouded appearance gave him the appearance of a tall tree, unwavering.
