Wiping the sweat from her brow and taking a water break, Lena couldn’t help but be pleasantly surprised by the whole thing. At the very least, all the new houses constantly reminded her she should’ve been snagging her own once she returned to Stormbreak, or didn’t have hordes of other duties to tend to.

Then there were some options for the next round, so she put the canteen away in her bag and conversed with her fellow workers. After coming to a decision, they rallied around the glass, and the Caretaker put on some gloves. “We’ll put the windows in!” She noted to everyone else, uncertain how she’d fare with stairs. Snagging at some of the panes, they all followed suit, striving to place the panes in correctly and efficiently, knowing the potential circumstances if they weren’t concentrating or careful.

Isla

Feeling proud of their efforts by the time lunch rolls around, Isla is praising her group of volunteers and waving them off to go and take a break. She, of course, works through her lunch, patching up someone's leg where a large hunk of stone had fallen on it. There's no break, but it has still needed bandaging up, and with a quick use of her Bloodboon, she's able to take away the majority of the scrapes and bruising to allow the person to keep up their duties for the day.

"We'll take the stairs, then!" she trills, smiling at Lena and setting off without complaint to do this next task. It's not her first rodeo with this, but she's still very grateful to have the volunteers' expertise, opting to give each home a similar layout to enable the space to be optimised in the same way for each house.

Moving onto windows and stairs, Sunjata and a variety of attuned within the volunteers have taken to beginning to lay out the floor foundation for the second levels while the stairs and windows on the bottom floors are placed. House after house they go, until they reach the businesses.

Lena and her group find the windows slip in easily. There’s only one window that proves to be difficult, like it’s been cut a touch too small for the space available. But with an abandoned in Lena’s midst to help adjust the glass pane, it slides in easily. The rest don’t require any adjustments and before long, all the bottom floor windows are in.

Isla, for all of her help with the volunteers that have been injured, has a good amount of them to rally with her to craft the stairs, and with only some minor injuries (hitting their thumbs with the hammer), each home’s stairs go in easily enough, meeting Sunjata and his crews on the second level.

Great work.” Sunjata encourages, flashing them all a bright and crooked smile. “Doors are next, along with the windows for the second floors and the roofs.” He’ll take whatever’s left.

Grateful for the fellow workers help, especially assisting with their variety of magic, Lena extended her acknowledgments profusely, and then stood back to survey their work. Save for the one circumstance, the windows notched in perfectly, and she could breathe another sigh of relief at portions continuing to be completed.

Listening to the Flood’s encouragement and next set of directions, she opted to continue on their stream of good luck and fortune. “Windows for the second floor then!” Once everyone coordinated themselves together, they began the resolute shuffling of maneuvering up and down the floors to get the glass panes in the correct area, before pushing them into the frameworks again. The Caretaker did her fair share of hauling, unloading, and pushing through, for there’d be no compelling into anything other than her own strength.

Isla

Beaming as she pops up at the top of the last staircase to see Sunjata and Lena, Isla nods to both of them. "That sounds good - we'll work on the doors," she trills, tipping a wink to Jata before disappearing again; they all know he's best placed to work on the rooftops given the wings he can sprout from his shoulders at a moment's notice.

And given that they've spent such a long time at work on the stairs, she's happy to give her volunteers the news that they are working on much smaller projects. Together they collect the timber for the doors, fitting handles and latches and hinges, until they are ready to hang them steady within each household and business. And Isla might not be the strongest, but she's more than happy to offer her eye for detail and to work with the tools while someone else holds the doors steady.

As roles are picked, Lena returning to window duty and Isla onto doors, the Flood finds himself and his fellow attuned in his volunteer group utilizing their flying shifts to take them up to the beams at the top – working tirelessly to lay out all of the shingles and nail them in. Only one of his group has an issue, yet again a problem with accidentally slamming a hammer down into their thumb. But it’s quick fix as they all continue about their work, as the attuneds and Sunjata begin to lay out shade for those within on the second floor.

The windows yet again go without a hitch, until the last one where there seems to be a magpie confused with the sudden walls surrounding each and every way (having flown in from the opening of the second window before they’d been placed and flying down to the first level and promptly getting lost). It’s a job perfect for Lena to handle while her crew fits in the last window.

Aside from needing some of Isla’s help with the attuned with the smashed thumb, her crew works diligently based off of her directions and can take the initiative whenever she’s called away. And here, the doors go on one after another, smoothly able to open and close without any rubbing or damage to the frames.

Once all of that is completed, a water and snack break is granted, and the multitude of empty houses and businesses surround them as the shade becomes vital during the Longheat season. Though that doesn’t stop him from keeping his feathered wings out on display, fanned out to catch the breeze that billows through and to help offer more shade for those sitting on upturned crates or the ground itself. “I think we should take a break from the buildings for a moment and focus on maybe utilizing the rocks that were broken down yesterday to start laying out some gravel. I was thinking maybe we could pack it into the dirt here to make a more stable road?” Glancing to everyone to see their thoughts, Sunjata gets started on it.

Wooooo we’re GETTING THERE!

We need crews to split into churning up the earth to make the road, another to collect some more rocks to be broken down, and one to pack it into the ground for the road!

Other than the unexpected magpie visit, the windows went well once more, and then there were opportunities to choose new roles and capacities. Provided water and snacks were a welcome provision, and harnessed any of her remaining strength into something other than the potential of taking a nap.

Then there were other motions to be done, and the Caretaker was grateful for the opportunities away from buildings and into the more honed, animal proportions of her existence. “I can take some to dig and churn up the earth.” She figured with the amount of Attuned and Abandoned combinations in her collective horde of workers, they’d be able to move quite a bit of loam.

So thereafter, she shifted into her fox form, amidst her other constituents, and headed towards the area requiring claws and earth incantations, set to put it all into motion.

Isla
babe, there's something so lonesome about you
Having ducked out a bit to deal with the smashed thumb, Isla is pleased to see that the volunteers cope wonderfully without her, until there are a multitude of buildings in the makeshift little town. Admiring the setup as she sits in the sun to enjoy her snack (as an Ancient she doesn't need to hide from the shade, leaving that privilege to others who require it), offering a nod and a smile to Sunjata's next task. "I can help pack the gravel into the ground," she offers, having very little strength in comparison to their resident demigod.

And so, shifting back into a shape with a great deal more weight, Isla's molten tiger form follows in Lena's footsteps so they might mix the gravel into the dirt and tamp it down accordingly. An added bonus - the road will also glisten with the odd shimmer of gold that drips from Isla's superheated stripes.

It’s an agreement, and with the break finished they go back to work — Lena and her group begin to churn the earth, revealing the occasional stone that Sunjata and his group can collect, as Isla follows behind with her group and their tools chosen to make a merry little streamlined process of making the road. Lena churns up the earth, Sunjata’s crew fans out to collect more stone and break it down, with a few of them being runners to go and place the gravel down to be packed in by Isla’s group, and Isla’s shift does wonders with the molten gold to bind it all together in glimmering veins.

It comes together nicely, but so far they only have half of it done. “Looking great, everyone!” Sunjata calls out to all of the volunteers, pausing to offer a bit of his water magic around each one to cool off the air around them as they continue (leaving Isla’s blissfully hot, given her whole Ancientness). “We’re halfway there!

Keep on keepin’ on with the road!

Halfway there was an echo she reverberated through her mind. Not as large as some of the other Attuned, Lena had to strive and try a bit harder to match their success, but her claws tore and dug against the earth time and time again. It was quite a liberating notion – nothing monumental or mentally taxing – simply careening through soil and loam in a haphazard but amusing fashion. The stones would be a sudden and abrupt change, but after a while they too were treated as fun, if she could sidle and snag them with her paws and toss them aside with her nose, or if she had to ask another worker to grab it due to further size dilemmas.

Isla
babe, there's something so lonesome about you
Having quite the whale of a time being able to pounce on the gravel and earth to tamp it down into a suitable road, Isla is quite happy to linger at the back of her group of volunteers to add any finishing touches with the gold from her stripes and to deal with any problematic areas.

They work like that until Sunjata declares it's half time, and with a chuff of gratitude, she pads away for a break with the others. And she's more than happy to bask in the superheated air, offering a big stretch to any animal lovers among them and lingering for a few minutes, before shaking herself off and getting back to work.

And it's more of the same, the road emerging in their wake as if it had been there all along, and the Remedy finds herself feeling at home in the town before it's even complete. Of course she's already made herself very much at home in Torchline, but King's End had always been her first after the war.

Everything begins to take shape as breaks are had and the rest of the road is churned up, between collecting the stones that are revealed, breaking them down to make more gravel for the road to be completed, the Flood couldn’t be more happy to see just how perfect it all comes together.

The sun wanes overhead, reaching toward the long stretches of a sunset by the time they finally meet the end, and Sunjata has helped in between offering some amount of shade where he can whether it be helping to dig or collect and break more of the rocks, and offering water with the twist of a hand for whoever requested it. Lena finishes first with her group and the digging and churning of the earth, while Isla and her group take up the end to cement the road completely.

Leaning against one of the houses he can see the way the shadow stretches out it’s silhouette. “Great job everyone. I think lastly we can celebrate with a nice big dinner?” Bouncing and scarred brow playfully, he begins to move back toward their makeshift camp — the shells of the buildings perfect for people to move into and customize their home however they see fit, complete with a road that connects to the main one that runs through King’s End. “I’ll go grab it if you all want to prepare for it.” The rest of him starts to shift with the announcement, replacing feathered wings for the leather of his dragon shift, and only when he’s out of range of damaging the houses they’d built does he shift to his black dragon shift and take to the skies, disappearing toward the House of Midnight.

Celebrate being done with a big ol’ dinner! Sunjata’s going to stop by the House of Midnight to snag the whole nice, fancy dinner (and drinks if wanted!)

Now we just need to clean up any mess to make room for the dinner in the middle of the town and bring over some of the crates to make a makeshift table!

After everything, a meal to commemorate the occasion sounded more than ideal. “Sounds good to me,” Lena offered in return, stretching out her limbs and already feeling the initial pull and weight of exhaustion beginning to bear down on her once more. As well as hunger, after such a long day’s work. Knowing the impending crash would be there eventually, and sleep bound to be bountiful, she and her share of the workers gazed over what was to be done in lieu of setup. “We can bring over some crates,” she inclined to Isla, in case her crew wanted to clean up and find a decent spot for the meal. “I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m famished!”

And the quicker they put things together, the quicker they could eat.

Isla

Isla might not need to cool down, necessarily, but she - and her group - are more than happy to take advantage of Sunjata's water magic to clean up a bit after the muddy, dusty work of the day. Stretching her arms above her head once she's presentable once more, her eyes light up at the prospect of food (a sentiment the entire camp seems to share, she's pleased to note). "That sounds amazing," she gushes, glancing to Lena and nodding her agreement.

"We'll make space for it," she agrees, heading to their rest space and moving surplus materials and belongings out of the way for Lena and her group to move the crates into. Isla spends a few moments sweeping out the area too - it's not much, but at least it will seem less like a work site by the time Sunjata returns.
