It had been a very, very long road. Not just the walk to Mourn - on his own two feet all the way from his home in Meadowreach, no skyboat in sight - but all that had come before. Time spent with friends. Meeting new people. Growing stronger with his partner.

Becoming infected by the Family and losing interest in creating a weapon that could harm them.

"Frey? It's, uh... it's been awhile, huh? I'm... I finally finished that quest an' I... well. I miss you." The last words came out with blunt wistfulness as he sat before the altar of elements that he and Sah had helped Sunjata build. His offerings were small, as subdued as the courier - former, at least for now - and even Boreal was quieter as she stayed glued to his side in spite of how good the offerings smelled. The beeswax candle that Tal had lit smelled of pumpkin pie: cinnamon and cloves and sweet, mellow gourd. The best and most perfect miniature pumpkin that he had been able to find accompanied it, practically gleaming like the platonic ideal of orange from how he had polished it to a shine, and a pair of crisp golden apples bracketed it, alongside two stalks of amber wheat, their heads heavy with seed ready to scatter. An offering from a bountiful harvest at the Glasse-and-Seawright household, given in gratitude for all that Frey had done for him over the years.

Frey
"How sweet." Frey's voice is soft and mellow, and they appear to grow up from the ground around the shrine, slow as soil, coiled in tendrils of pumpkin vines and leaf litter and soft mulch. Sighing into the chill air and breathing deep of the scent of Leafchange from Tal's candle, they remain sprawled in the grass, golden fingers playing across the tiny flame. "I miss when the days were long and the trees were full," they say through a morose sigh, rolling onto their back and twirling a dead leaf between their fingers.

"Ah, but your quest... Here."

Sweeping their arm across the grass, they reveal - as if it has been there all along - the intricate hilt of a dagger, though it has no discernible blade. Should Tal touch it, though, he'll feel a cutting edge as razor sharp as any metal weapon, condensed from the very air itself. "Does that suit, sugar?"

Tal has completed his quest and has received the following:

[*]Air Blade | A beautiful dagger hilt of ramphire leather with no discernible blade. Rest assured, though, its edge is as sharp as any steel, crafted from the air itself.

Boreal crooned a greeting and Tal caught his breath as the god appeared in answer to his prayer. He took in their appearance with curious fascination, seeing the touches of Leafchange that bedecked the god of nature, but at the dolorous sigh the courier gave a morose nod of his own. "Me too," he admitted, though he wasn't proud of it. Leafchange meant that Deepfrost was right around the corner and with Deepfrost came LongNight...

He shook his head to clear the nightmare memory away and when he opened his eyes again a dagger's hilt lay in the grass between them. It was a very welcome distraction and he reached for it eagerly. Twisting it in the light produced no visible blade, but when he sliced it across the top of some grass it proved to be very sharp, indeed. His pale eyes lit up with admiration as he examined the hilt more closely, taking in the craftsmanship and small details that the deity had added to it. "Thanks, Frey! It suits perfectly!" Boreal reached up to try and sniff it and Tal hastily shifted the invisible blade away from her questing muzzle.

"Careful," he admonished her, flipping it so she could get a whiff of the hilt instead. "It's like a secret weapon!" A second one, less fraught with memory than the first, and one he hoped he wouldn't have to use any time soon.

"I'll, uh, let y'get back t'finishin' up th'harvests Frey, but thanks again!" He flashed the god a subdued but genuine smile and, cradling his new gift, headed back home to show Alys what he had received.
