EDREI

Revenge and an unfettered request to cause chaos? Sweeter words had never been spoken. So despite Edy's current dislike of Morgan and Wessex just now, her love for violence and causing a goddamn shitstorm granted them temporary reprieve.

"All aboard." For the first time, Edy shifts, and to say she's massive is a fucking understatement. Wearing Sunjata's dragon shift like a new pair of leather pants, the ascended gives her wings an experimental flap as lightning bubbles in the back of her throat.

Oh fuck. Can anyone hear me? Wessex, probably; only being able to communicate via the Wraith was a bit of a fuck off, but whatever. Waiting for everyone to climb onto her back (oooh and how they tickled her scales), the Rapacious would wait for the go-ahead before setting off towards the Palace, fully prepared to Godzilla the shit out of the first tower she saw.

This is an army vs. army invasion of Halo.

Edy arrives as a dragon (gained from biting Neron in this thread: hypotheticals, carrying Wessex, Morgan, Nate, and Neron on her back.

Neron communicated information to Wessex in a letter, which was then broadcast to the ascended via Wessex 's upgrade here.

They arrive via the portal in the Fangs at the darkest part of the night, and then flew to the palace.
"Go fuck yourself."
"Fuck me yourself, you coward."

Morgan

I'm king of the land,

Well, wasn't it funny how quickly fortunes could turn?

Morgan had found, not long after her exile from her beloved home, that she had far more allies than she'd thought she had. Maybe the Ascended were more interested in eliminating a new leader that was proudly Old Gods aligned, but their goals all still lined up and as long as she could make sure the Citadel remained a safe place for her citizens, all the politics overhead were meaningless.

Sat on Edy's back, her hammer clutched in one hand and the other on Neron's hip (partially for balance, partially for comfort) she watched the Citadel come into view. Her citadel.

Noah and Hotaru had wanted to play dirty, so she was going to return the favour. The necklace Deimos had made for her felt ironic and heavy around her neck, but she wasn't foolish enough to dispose of it. Pressing the pendant to produce it's armour, she prepared herself for a fight.

Morgan has:

Type: Light
Heat-Cloak | A magical cloak that always keeps the wearer warm.

Type: Grey
Amor Pendant | A pendant that hangs over Morgan’s chest. When pressed, it magically armors her torso down to her hips. (Made by Deimos)

liars and lovers combine tonight, we're gonna make a scene
"Don't panic if none of you can see me. I'll be engaging my upgrade for most of this, and I'll let Wessex know anything pertinent." Indeed, the Neron who speaks over the wind is mostly invisible, and he watches the glittering towers in the distance with a cold sort of anger that has been building since they'd stepped out of the Citadel a few short days ago.

"Edy, you can probably take a shot at one of the damaged towers to draw attention, and drop us down somewhere? I'm not sure of the best place for us to disembark." He doesn't know if Morgan can see his glance at her, but he does wonder if she has any ideas. "Also I hate to be the one to say it, but after all that has happened, I am out for blood. I won't be pulling any punches."

Neron brings his full gear (from his profile) and is engaging this upgrade until otherwise stated:

Type: Dark
Cloaking Upgrade | A 90% body upgrade that bends light making the user invisible. Dramatic action or the use of weapons/upgrades/items makes the user 25% more visible. This translates to rolling disadvantage to hit the user in a battle.

WESSEX

Go

a cactus

Dramatically also fairly hidden by the Shadow Cloak, the Wraith climbs aboard the Rapacious - not for the first time, either. I can hear you, Wessex answers Edy, before anyone gets their scaled panties in a twist (who are we kidding, Edy goes commando), But if I need to leave your side, I won’t be able to.

“Once we land, make sure to keep Edy up to date if I have to leave.” They probably don’t want a completely ruined Citadel on their hands. “Oh and this is for you,” she says to Morgan, handing off the Infernbow. “If you want it. Sets the arrow on fire when you pull the trigger.” Aka - as we’ve learned - not for Ascended hands. "Careful where you point it."

She knows what her part in this is and she is along for the ride.
-------------------

Wessex hands off the Infernbow to Morgan:

Type: Dark
Infernbow | A wooden crossbow with the ability to set any arrows placed within to ignite on the pull of its trigger. (Made by Deimos)

And is wearing her Shadow Cloak.

Type: Grey
Shadow-Cloth | A cloak that renders the wearer invisible when in shadow. (Made by Remi)

Comes with all her profile items except the Greatwood Map.

NATE

It’s fun how things work out sometimes. Nate hasn’t had the chance to reach it to his brother just yet, but the need evaporates with Wessex’s voice in his head, a plan already made, that just needs his violent hands.

It’s perfect.

Nate is ready and waiting on the cold side of the portal, manic anticipation thrumming through him as he climbs up upon Edrei’s draconic back, the doctor looking the most natural out of all of them nestled in among black scales. “I’ve got a shift as well, if we need it.” He mentions, speaking to the group but looking at Wessex.

He has nothing to add until Neron speaks over the wind, a sharp, cruel laugh preceding his voice. “Were any of us planning to do this gently?

Team Halo have 48 hours to respond. Anyone looking to participate must reply in this time.

Because there is a dragon flying toward the Palace, it's reasonable to assume the citizens of Halo might join in. This thread will become a KQ, which brings the possibility of death. If you try and run during this thread, the success will be rolled for, so your safety will not be guaranteed.

Speak with an admin if you have questions.

It's taken a lifetime to lose my way
All the wasted time on my hands turns to sand
Nighttime patrol, a normalcy returned – strides certain until they suddenly weren’t. Movement in the sky, blotting out pieces of the moon, drew the Sword and his guards’ attentions. Billowing scales, leathery wings, barely illuminated by the press of braziers and fires down below; outlined only by stretches of dread, trepidation, and apprehension. How long had it been since they’d last seen such a beast? It burned into his chest – turning, shifting, knowing full well that even as it headed towards the Palace, the people mattered more. They always did.

Cupping his hands together, intending to be loud, loud, loud over the boon of the world, he howled into the void of the Citadel. “Dragon!” Hopefully enough to alert, to draw others away and out of the streets if they remained in their evening strolls, in their market squares. Turning his attention to the soldiers at his side, he began barking orders. “Find anyone still out in the streets and shelter them in the barracks.” Thereafter, they could part ways, dashing down streets and pathways.

Deimos was always an armament; gathered and coiled, contorted and ready. Ensuring his bag of holding was still on his shoulder, containing vital pieces and items, and Zuriel racing at his side, they aimed to be fleet, swift, quick, hustling citizens into shelter. There is a dragon heading towards the Palace he stretched out Attuned bonds to the sovereigns; hoping Hotaru and Noah could hear him.  Lifting his head, narrowing his eyes, he thought he saw a familiarity bristling against the outline; and something in him sunk. With others aboard..

--

Deimos and his guards out on patrol see the dragon, and he sends his guards to round up any citizens still out, and to send them to the barracks for safety.

Deimos heads towards citizens with Zuriel, intending to warn them away and into the barracks, attempting to communicate through the Attuned bond with Noah and Hotaru.

He has all items, magic, and abilities lifted on his profile on his person (except for Belial).

If you ever feel that you're on your own
Then sing with me until I get home
Frazzled nerves never allowed for a deep sleep. A year on the Tundra had taught the raven to sleep lightly, to stay on guard and be ready to fly, or fight in a heartbeat.

When the call went up - Dragon, invasion, other's on its back - the bird rolled up from its doze - and into a form that was altogether new, and untried. Large paws and pale fur replaced wings and talons, and the teeth within his jaws felt sharp.

Good. They might be needed tonight.

Breaking out of his lair, the Korbin-wolf erupted onto the streets of his hometown, his homeland, his everything, and raised a soft dark nose in a war-song. His mental voice joined with that of the General, not overriding but emphasizing with urgency and determination.

"Night-wings, fire-breathers, danger draws near. Defend the pack!" and to Noah, a quieter whisper: "I am with you, brother. Where do we run?"

Into the fray? Or away from it?

Korbin will join up with Noah and Deimos, and follow their instructions.

He has no battle-relevant items, only his shifts. (Arcitc wolf, Raven)

moral of the story is, i will gut you if i need to
i will carve my way out
She rises from a dream with Remi, and finds only chaos on her doorstep. Deimos' call shakes her into motion, and Hotaru - heavily pregnant, and thus quite slow - rushes from her bed as quickly as she can. Gathering her armor and items by her bedside before slipping out the door, breath held close in her chest as her eyes search upward. The night is dark, but a hawk's eyes are sharp and clear, and lend themselves to her when called upon. Morgan is familiar enough to spot, as is the male rider, but the dragon itself is far too familiar.

Her heart sinks.

Jata...? It telegraphs unintentionally across the Attuned bond, and only a moment later she shuts it down, praying they cannot feel the tidal wave of emotion that sucks her under at the revelation. It doesn't make any sense. Why now? Why this? Torchline's rulers are absent - is this personal, then? And if so, why? Sunjata's devotion to Safrin should have seen to their commands aligning, not whatever this is. Perhaps someone drank from him then? Hotaru latches to the idea with both hands. She has no right to feel betrayed, to hope that it's not true, not after all she has done. Even so, she does. She'll never stop caring, it is the downfall of her nature.

Because where Sunjata goes, Nate follows. Is this the answer to her letter, then? To the baring of her heart and soul? She had written it so many times over her fingers had cramped and cried in protest. Where had she gone wrong?

It is a heartbreak you cannot afford to dwell on now, the Valkyrie inside her dictates. Hotaru's shoulders straighten.

Noah and Korbin draw her attention with their exit well before their minds touch hers, and Hotaru turns to hurry to them, heart leaping in her chest as she crosses to them. She reaches for Noah - for his hand, as she had in the moments before they'd entered Morgan's chambers, and again when they had stood before the people of Halo. Invasion, she forces at large, spanning between them and to Deimos if he is close enough. The bond opens wide, letting them feel the steel that resides in her soul so that they may take heart from it if they can.

This is not her first invasion, and even disadvantaged as she is - as all of Halo is, defenseless and slumbering - there is a certainty to her heart that is borne of experience. Clinging tight to Noah's hand, to keep him held tight at her side, she looks up into his eyes, which even in darkness cannot be swallowed. Hotaru knows what she will find there - the desire to fight and defend until breath ceases to come and hearts refuse to beat - and she cannot let it happen. Though her mind opens to Korbin where he stands shifted, her eyes never waver from the Sentinel's.

We cannot fight. Noah, please. There are too few of us - you know this. Not against a dragon. Weaver's death alone should stand in his memory as warning. Broadening her bond to all three, Hotaru makes her stand. The citizens must be evacuated, but they're here for us. So long as we remain, our people are at risk by association. And so we must go. It goes unspoken, but not unheard, and she knows it.

Loathe as she is to let them have it, at least the citizens will be safe - and had Hotaru not warned them of this inevitability? It is bitterly hilarious to her that Morgan has chosen this cowardly path - at least Ru and Noah had promised her safety, had approached her during the day and been frank with their demands and celestial orders. It had been as respectful as they could make it. Hotaru almost wishes she'd killed the Glacier instead now.

But she cannot force Noah to leave. Instead she pulls on her own Attunement, taking wing as a pale hawk to fly to the top of the building, where she changes back. As far as she knows, only Sunjata could hear her if she reached for him, but she isn't sure it actually is him. Instead she cups her hands around her mouth, shouting to the sky.

"We surrender! Don't harm the people, let them evacuate!"

Then feathers find her once more, and Hotaru wings away to check on the citizens, wherever Deimos (and Sah, as she will find) has escorted them. And then onward over the mountains, to safety. There will be time for emotion later, but for now, there is only the Valkyrie where Hotaru once stood. She will live to see another day, to bear her children, to plan her revenge and the protection of any left behind. And those who follow, should they choose.

- - -

Hotaru exits the building, talks to Noah and Korbin, and then changes into her hawk form to declare her surrender before leaving (towards the citizens/Sah thread, then out of Halo)

NOAH

This was not the first time the Sentinel had been roused from his sleep through the attuned bond. The sound of all the screams filled his ears as he rolled out of bed, boots on faster than any time he had ever pulled them on before. He followed the raven out of their home, watched as black feathers shifted to pristine white fur. His eyes widened as they burst into the street, his fingers finding and lacing through Hotaru's as if they had spent a lifetime doing such a thing. The wingbeats above them were heavy and familiar, and he felt his heart sink into the depths of his own soul. With one hand gripping the Valkyrie and one hand gripping tight the bow -- his father's bow -- that he used for protection and provision, the hunter drowned in the sound of his own blood pounding in his ears.

Glacier eyes darted back and forth, his voice barking commands for the people to run, hide, flee from this monstrous beast -- a beast hellbent on devouring his people -- it was then that the words Deimos spoke across the bond reverberated within him. He felt everything that he was freeze -- the blood pounding in his ears ran cold. Korbin....run.There had never been a devastation like this before, never a grief that struck his heart like lightning. He knew it. He knew what was happening -- this was no ordinary beast. This was no ordinary dragon, enervated with its meals from the Draig. No, this was deliberate. This was an attack. This was an invasion.

This was Morgan.

Even in the dark of the night, as the invaders approached Morgan's bright hair was unmistakable, and though he could not see Neron with her he knew the idiot was with her. Morgan was a coward and full of disgrace. Her wounded pride -- pride bigger than the Fangs -- was all this display was. A disgrace to her name. A disgrace to her father. Hotaru's words bounced in his mind and he squeezed her hand, tight. I know. We have to go. That will save them. Noah knew they could not fight. Despite every part of him telling him to sink and arrow between Morgan's eyes, he knew he could not. if he loosed an arrow, there would be no stopping the bloodshed. Morgan and her band of revolting, depraved intruders would not stop until Noah and Hotaru and everyone who stood at their sides were dead.

"STOP!" Noah's voice boomed as Hotaru's hand slipped from his -- he did not look back to see her, but before she had turned to flight he had stepped before her, his body guarding hers and the life she carried. "DO NOT FIRE! YOU WILL ONLY BRING END TO THESE PEOPLE!" It seemed this is what Morgan wanted -- to kill Halo and everyone residing within the crown of frozen mountains. "You can have what you want so long as it does not bring Halo harm. You can have the crown. I see now you are only full of bloodthirst, and your selfishness knows no bounds. He has plagued you and you have succumb to the Voice and her command!" You've sentenced these people to death -- he didn't add.

Rage surged through the hunter -- through the Sentinel of the North.

This dragon, with Morgan astride, were here for nothing else but death. While Noah and his counterparts had disputed Morgan's choices and removed her from her throne for the safety of these people, the woman had brought in an army to destroy this place, to kill them and to kill these people. GO! Noah commanded over the bond, his command clear and strong to Hotaru (who had already taken flight), Korbin, and Deimos. If you stay, they will kill you. He finally solidified to Deimos. Get the people out, and FLY! If anyone wants to come with us, bring them!

At his own command, the Sentinel took the form of his first shift, his soul shift, and turned to follow Hotaru, knowing Korbin would be on his heels, with his bow tucked in to his antlers.

He felt everything crumble within him. Everything he was and everything he knew faded behind him. Noah had only ever lived to serve the people of Halo. To be good. to provide and protect. It was now, because of him, that Morgan's bloodthirsty rein would rule again -- that the Voice had claimed their land.

There would be no recovery.

---

Noah surrenders the position of Warden and runs into the tundra.

Noah and Hotaru have both surrendered as Wardens of Halo. (OOC it means they cannot be killed as part of this army vs. army invasion).

However the invading team may still try and take prisoners.

As it stands, Deimos and Korbin are still in the city.
Noah has shifted into a reindeer and has begun to run into the tundra.
Hotaru has shifted into a hawk headed for the mountains.

EDREI

So far Edy has been pointed toward damaged towers, told to shake off her cargo, and that her kin wasn't pulling his punches. All that translated into a fuck ton of take your surrender and stick it up your ass, in Edy's mind.

Of course it would be you in my fucking head. The Rapacious grumps at Wessex, taking a moment to be a petty child even in the midst of chaos. It was one of her many talents. Opening her jaws, Edy sends a blast of lightning toward one of the towers, aiming it about halfway down and nearer to one side than the other, with hopes of toppling the entire fucking thing. And hey, if it came down and crushed that big fucker below, all the better.

Swooping toward the palace and aiming herself for more or less flat ground, Edy gives her entire body a wiggle and snarls something that is meant to be get the fuck off of me.

Edy aims a lightning blast towards one of the towers hoping to topple it, and then flies to somewhere flat near the palace so everyone can get off.

Morgan
the glacier
I'm king of the land,
I'm a ruler of seas
The ride over the snow to the Citadel had been almost quiet; as soon as they broached the walls, it all began to happen at once. As Noah shouted out his passionate speech, all she could do was stare; she had no intentions to harm any citizens, only wanted to make sure that Hotaru, Noah, Deimos (and maybe Korbin now) were out. Hearing Neron ask for a tower to be shot and seeing Edy do it, she shouted out a cry.

Gripping Neron's shoulder as they flew down, she hissed into his ear, about as angry as he would have ever heard her: "We are not here for meaningless destruction."

As soon as she had the chance to jump off of Edy she would, walking to the front of the dragon and looking her square in the eyes (or at least, as best she could, given the size difference). "Listen to me. If you want to destroy things, there is a village up in the mountains empty of anyone that you can do whatever you want with. This Citadel is home to many good people, people I need to believe in me when I take the Wardenship back, and I cannot have them come to harm." Apparently, Morgan had not made that clear enough on the way. Hopefully they could all agree they didn't want to kill innocents.

Once that warning was given she stepped back, hammer in hand, and surveyed what she could see. With Noah and Hotaru gone, there was only Deimos to deal with, if he chose to fight them - even with just him, it would be a hard fight. Gripping her hammer and standing firm, Morgan took a breath and called out. Whether they heard her or not, she hoped at least some of her people would.

"We are not here to hurt the people. Noah, Hotaru and Deimos kidnapped our Citadel's spirit and demanded it follow the Old Gods. Demanded that you gave your minds to their cause without hesitation. I would never - will never - do that. Halo is a land for those that stand with all, not the few. That does not paint a man based on his God or his race. Anyone that disagrees with that notion is free to challenge me or leave."

--
Morgan tells Neron/Edy that she'd rather not see the Citadel destroyed/anyone hurt, and tells Edy she can go and smash up Whitebrim if she wishes to. She shouts out their intentions and asks if anyone is coming to challenge them.

liars and lovers combine tonight, we're gonna make a scene
Well this was boring. Neron had honestly come assuming they'd at least bloody their noses trying to get their home back, but here came the glorious leaders, fleeing into the Tundra. Like rats into a sewer.

Edy shoots her shot at the tower and there's perhaps a bloodthirsty, fanged smile on the Hailstorm's face for a moment, before there's a voice hissing in his ear and it's almost as sexy as it is chilling. "There is no one in that tower. It's a demonstration," he mutters, but he does at least concede the point to the Warden.

As they land, he casts sharp eyes towards the city walls. "I'd agree with Morgan," he croons to Edrei. "They might flee to Whitebrim and come back for another coup. Destroy the place until it's nothing but a black mark on the Tundra."

As for the others, and anyone who wanted to challenge Morgan? "Is there any chance of us catching up to them?" he wonders, glancing to Wessex and Nate. "I would go, if there is. I plan to keep a close eye on the portal from here anyway."

Neron is surprised by how easy this was, agrees for Edy to go postal on Whitebrim, and vows to watch the portal from here. He also suggests trying to catch with one or more of the fleeing leaders.
