This colored Iskra's early view of the world, in which he decided he never wanted to create more pain or misery for others. Instead, he reveled in the rare moments when he could get his mother to smile, or even better, laugh! He quickly took to playing a fool to lighten the mood of others and is often up to mischief to achieve this end. His easy smile and frequent humor shouldn't belittle the seriousness with which he carries his own grief and burdens. He thinks happiness is the utmost important thing so never wants to be the cause of suffering; often this has made him very closed off to others, unwilling to share bits of himself with them, and therefore unable to get much past basic acquaintances. Because of this aversion to causing unhappiness, Iskra also actively tries to avoid remembering his past and his family by doing the opposite, both in terms of where he lives and what he does for a living - rather than ocean-warmed sands and mercenary work, he chills himself in the coldest region and works as a woodcutter. The one thing he can't seem to avoid is his mother's fondness for drink, which he hates himself for, but she had it right - it does dull the misery a bit. HistoryIskra was born into a time of sorrow, as his father had just passed. The grief hung heavy, especially on his mother. He grew up cared for, but it was like walking on eggshells around her, trying to do whatever he could to help keep her from slipping into the dark. The rare moments she was lighter are some of his happiest and most cherished memories. His innocence at this time, and desire to play jester for his mom, made him always game for adventure and play in his youth. He was often getting into trouble, but not intentionally; he just stuck his nose where it didn't belong and was somewhat of a nuisance to other families who didn't have time to help parent him. He usually got along great with the other kids though, who wanted to go on grand adventures with him, and he always welcomed them. Teens Around 12 or so his mother also passed away. He won't speak or dwell on the cause of her death to any degree, but as she was the only one he really had, it wore heavy on him. Old enough to survive alone, it certainly wasn't easy, and it was even harder to bear. Iskra withdrew into himself and slipped into his own reclusive depression. Gone was the laughing, mischievous boy. Around 16 he left his homeland and moved to Halo, specifically because it was as opposite as he could get from his home. He hated the daily reminders that staying in his childhood home brought up, and so he started doing everything he could to forget. Originally repulsed by alcohol given how much he saw it affect his mother, it nonetheless always seemed to be around the revelry he craved to escape into, and so he began to partake and found it worthwhile as a method for numbing the worst. Although he truly hates it and it reminds him of her almost every time he drinks (whether he realizes it or not). Young Adult He found Goose as a stray dog one day, alone and scared. Iskra took him in, and that dog was the one who saved him. As Iskra aged into adulthood, he found a steady and destructive rhythm of drinking, partying, and escaping. Goose suddenly became someone who needed him, loved him, and was there for him through the good and the bad. They became inseparable and the boy inside Iskra gradually began to crawl his way back out of the hole he'd fallen into the past few years. Iskra still has a ways to go, and his hand is still heavy on the drink, but now he wakes up with purpose and works in the woods with his dog to contribute in some peaceful way. He's finding some inner calm, and through that starting to reach back out to others when he'd walled himself off for so long. OtherA rough estimate of this character's damage potential is as follows:
