Flora adjusts the corner of one tablecloth for the third time, pinching the fabric between two fingers until the line falls exactly where she wants it. The drinks are arranged within easy reach, the snacks look plentiful without suggesting she expects half of Haulani to arrive starving, and the chairs have been left loose enough that no one has to decide whether sitting in the front row makes them look eager or deeply suspicious. It’s as welcoming as she can make a meeting called by the Queen without putting up a sign that promises no one is in trouble.
Dressed in a light sweater and shorts, Flora has aimed for approachable rather than ceremonial, though the effort she’s put into looking effortless probably ruins the effect for anyone who knows her well. Spice is draped across her shoulders like a living stole, her pale tail curled around one side of Flora’s neck while her head rests near the other. Every so often the dragon’s claws catch faintly against the knit of the sweater, prompting Flora to lift a hand and reposition one small foot before it can pull a thread.
By the time the first arrivals begin to make their way inside, she’s wearing a warm, polished smile that gives away none of the restless energy humming beneath her skin. "Come in," Flora calls, lifting one hand toward the waiting refreshments. "Grab something to eat or drink and make yourselves comfortable. We’ll get started once everyone’s had a chance to arrive."
