Having jostled his way a little closer while Calan adds further veracity to their lie, Carlo guides his brother's other foot to the corresponding shoulder, which should at least provide some stability whilst he contends with his feathery new hat. It all sounds very plausible - ordinary, even - despite their lack of water or window cleaning supplies, but then the girl at the window next door has to ruin it by apparently being Fern Lockwood-Hart.
"Wh..." Rarely caught so immediately speechless, Carlo is quick to try and recover with an exaggerated clearing of his throat. "Well yes, of course," he blurts. "We were just practising on this window, you see. Our boss is just out in the market square though - you know, the one that sells those big pretzels - if you want to talk to him. So maaaybe you want to come down and we can take you there?"
He shoots a wide-eyed look up at Calan that his brother very likely won't see at this point, because the idea of asking Fern hey, wanna come out to play has not once entered his busy little mind.
