Calan
Calan nods with all the calm confidence of somebody who knows exactly what he is talking about. "Oh yes, of course," he says. "The best part about flying is definitely the going up." It sounds right when he says it, and that is generally enough to make a thing true until somebody proves otherwise.
Keeping pace at Fern’s side with her arm tucked through his, Calan nods solemnly about the haunting. "Good haunting is the best kind," he agrees. "Our sister’s house is haunted by lots of different spirits, but if you give them candy and things, they’ll be nice to you." After a small pause, during which he considers whether surgeons might have some secret use in ghost negotiations after all, he adds, "We’ll show you how. I’m not sure your medical training will be helpful to them, but who knows."There is a trace of apology in his voice, because Fern’s medical knowledge is obviously very important, just maybe not to spirits who have already stopped needing doctors.
The question of who has been left with whom is solved so neatly that Calan wonders why nobody had said it sooner. He looks over at Carlo, gives a decisive little nod, and turns back to Fern with a grin. "Well, I suppose if we’re left with you and you’re left with us, then we’re all set." It has the clean, satisfying sound of a plan clicking shut around them, like a door that was always meant to lead somewhere fun. As they continue toward the pretzels, Calan glances over his shoulder at his brother and nods again. "Being sharks was great." Then his expression brightens with the importance of the next job already waiting for them. "And pretty soon we’re going to be detectives when we go back to the jungle." Turning his grin on Fern, he asks, "Did you know there’s a mystery happening there? We're going to solve it."

I've never been one to half-ass shenanigans.
