Were this a film, surely her shadow would have sprouted horns by now and thrown back its head laughing, though she only watches him with narrowed eyes and a mouth that threatens to curl at one corner when he lifts his palms toward her in surrender.

"With complaints, and throwing me in the pool." Flora pauses, letting the accusation settle between them as her gaze sharpens.
