He squints at the disturbed sand, mouth pursing with the sort of serious concentration usually reserved for maps, traps, and adults saying they’ll only be gone for a minute. "Probably," he allows, when Erebos wonders whether it can hear them. "But that also means it isn’t being careful to hide its tracks. So if we wanted, we could send something down after it."
Then, tipping his face up toward the sky, Calan narrows his eyes against the sunlight until Sugar is only a bright wheeling shape above them. "Our dad," he says matter-of-factly. "Our deer-dad, I mean. We have two."
