i fell in love with a war
Icarus nods, mind already racing in preparation for the hunt. His water magic was a dependable ally in a fight, but he'd never relied on his as his main weapon or defense, choosing instead to let it assist him as he fought with sword and shield rather than wielding it foremost. For all his mastery of the thing, years of practice spinning water into ice and back again and learning the shape of it in his bones, he's never seen it as more than just an extension of his body, of his skills. Perhaps this hunt will teach him how to wield it more creatively, as a weapon and defense in itself, instead of something he uses to enhance those things. Nevertheless, he plans to bring what Deimos instructed, though he wonders how much use of it Deimos will permit him to have.
It's not that he itches for blood and battle -- no, he remembers the dragons sieging the Citadel too well to long for something like it -- but rather, he yearns for purpose. What use is a soldier if they aren't wielded to protect or defend? He'll never begrudge training and preparation, well-aware of how they can turn the tide between life and death, but he wishes to do something worthwhile with what he's learned. To help. The young soldier knows the Warden has something of that spark in him as well, which frustrates him all the more when he's left on the training fields or ordered him away from action. Though, Icarus wonders, while looking at that grin, if this likeness is exactly why Deimos doesn't push him into the heart of the hurting.
"Thank you, sir. I'll work hard to be a worthwhile addition to the hunt," Is what he says instead of I'll make you proud or I won't let you down. He resists asking when they leave, not trying to look too eager or seem irresponsible in his desire to go.
