Nobody reads a mystery to get to the middle.
Too invested in the new mysteries to be put off by flippant comments, Knell blinks up at him, eyes flickering bright with an excitement that hasn't been banked. "Tomorrow?" Her tail waves behind, a quill ready to sign the last stroke in their contract, one her young mind won't soon forget. And should he deny her - well, she'll have to find another friend to go with her.
Momentarily distracted by food and crafts, Knell stretches her fingers out for the bouquet Kai pushes across the counter. They manage to clutch at the stems when he props onto a barstool. She looks at the other stool, realizing the project would be easier if she were taller.
Her hands flat against the seat, she pushes up with a small grunt flat on her belly. With a bit of awkward maneuvering and spinning (and a few dangerous whips of her tail), she manages to place her bottom on the barstool, rotating to face the counter where Kai has started lining up the flowers. "Oooh," she remarks, a little breathless from her efforts.
Knell pulls the flowers from their wrapping, flipping her gaze from his work to her own. She adjusts each to replicate the angle and distance of the stems, occasionally using a distracted hand to push the red hair from her eyes. When she's convinced the appearance in similar enough, she looks to Kai. "Like this?"

Knell
They read it to get to the end.
