Maria Mundi - Rules

f Caido is the world with all its regions and land masses, Maria Mundi is the collection of oceans and waterways that connect them. From the Spillwave in the north to the Arclight in the south, from eastern Eurybia to western Brizo, Caido's sailors are truly considered worth their salt once they have braved them all. Each is different and some are far deadlier than the others; nevertheless, all of them make up Maria Mundi.

Spillwave Sea
So named for its calm and lapping waters, the Spillwave is considered a very friendly sea to sail, and is where many novice sailors first earn their sea legs. Bordering Hak Etme and the Greatwood, the waters are warm and deep and inviting. Rainy days are common, especially so during Flowerbirth, but stormy weather is a relative stranger to these parts. At night, swathes of bioluminescence accompany the starlight, emanating from certain strains of algae and species of jellyfish.
Eurybia Ocean
Frigid and unforgiving despite the relative proximity of The Climb, Eurybia borders Halo, spilling along its coast and eventually settling into Svaturis Bay. The waters are dark and the going is rough; under slate grey skies, snow and frost are no stranger to this ocean, and to fall into her depths without adequate protection is as good as a death sentence. Difficult to navigate at best and treacherous at worst, there is no shortage of icebergs and pack ice on Eurybia. As deadly as she is, though, she is beautiful too, and at night one can encounter the brightest and most breathtaking aurora borealis in Caido.
Brizo Sea
A relatively narrow sea spanning Caido's western edge and flowing around the Hollowed Grounds and King's End, Brizo is as capricious and playful as the regions she nestles up against. Rainy and temperate with no shortage of lightning storms and eddies, despite her tempestuous nature, she still makes for relatively smooth sailing for any decent sailor. Kid sister to the Arclight, unlike the larger stretch of water to the south, Brizo seems to know not to get too out of hand.
The Ark
A galleon of dark lacquered wood and rust-red sails, The Ark cuts through waves with ruthless precision. Deceptively agile and designed to vanish against the glare of sunrise and sunset, she's as seasoned in Caido's skies as she is in her oceans. A figurehead of Safrin extends from her keel, bare breasted and elegant; both a mark of pride and a physical token of the vessel's alignment to the goddess. Make no mistake, though - even if the waters are friendly, this ship and her captain are not so accommodating.
Arclight Ocean
Pale turquoise in its shallows to a deep, swallowing blue deeper out at sea, the Arclight Ocean is so named for the bands of concentric light that seem to scatter across the water when the sun sets. No one knows what causes this phenomenon, but myths abound - from merfolk to magic to old and ancient technology. Bordering Torchline and stretching along the Oerwoud and the Feverlands, the Arclight is the largest ocean in Maria Mundi, and also the most fickle. Prone to rogue waves, typhoons and hurricanes, it takes a skilled and watchful sailor to navigate her waters. Deep below, too, she harbours more than a few secrets.
