It was a young boy named Valeri that finally gave her the strength to leave for good, accompanying her north into the frozen wastelands of Halo. He was the light to her darkness, a weight on the other end of the scale in perfect balance. The tested their skills in those frozen wastes and returned refreshed to the Citadel when needed. Another Abandoned, he shared their inquisitive spirit and inspired them to be daring. But he was perhaps too much so; it was only after they lost him to a hunt gone wrong that they realized that they knew what it was to love.

They spent a number of years in solitude, surviving in the wild and learning from it, and then eventually stumbled upon a woman who lived as she did. Leana was quiet and wise, and she taught Chaele how to do more than survive: she showed them what it was to read unspoken secrets of the forests and mountains, to touch the ley lines of the world and aspire to harness their power. They loved her in a different, more practical way, indulging in the vices of instinct like a pair of predators with little to lose. It was inevitable that they would part ways, but when the time came they were still caught unaware.

Chaele still grieves both losses, maybe more than she realizes, as she wanders alone. Her goals are less distinct than she would ever care to admit. She is searching for something, some answer or reason, and hopes that when the time comes to discover it that she will deserve it.
