In all her back-and-forth ruminations and travels, from King’s End to Stormbreak and vice versa, Lena had spotted the shrine. It’d been an inevitable part and portion on her mind for the last few weeks – knowing she’d needed to talk to Frey, about the Celestine, about infestation and infection, about forgoing her own safety and waltzing right in to take care of –

But then, just like that, the Family was gone, Stormbreak was available and home again. So in the midst of curating her garden wares and maneuvering some herbs for the townsfolk, the weariness in her heart wasn’t so labored. She could tend to them all once more.

Which meant there were other things to discuss and strive for now.

The earthen shrine was a spectacle all on its own – beautiful, breathtaking, alluring and charming, the wind chimes echoing with music and bits of flame. Delighted, she smiled and marveled at its splendor, while she kneeled, preparing the platters of ripened, fresh fruits: grapes, peaches, and plums, all snagged from the market, and some cream to go alongside. “Frey, I hope everything is well.” Coming back to order – gradually, eventually. “If you’re willing, I’d like to upgrade my healing staff again.” One last time, a gesture of mastered proportions to flow through wounds and misgivings.

The breeze is sweet and cool and refreshing, and the Celestine is as quiet and harmonious as it has ever been. You are welcome to ruminate here for as long as you like, but nothing else happens.

The breeze was inviting, but nothing else strayed or stayed, or even approached. Lena took that as enough of a sign – felt it meld into the corners of her rib cage, into the planes and angles of her shoulders. It was a slew of thoughts tracing and trailing thereafter – ruminations she’d long since blended into her heart and figured they were real, tangible, harsh outlines. She hadn’t been doing enough. She hadn’t been worthy., Maybe, maybe, in time, she’d be able to earn the right to call for Frey again.

“Thank you,” she whispered, taking a long, slow breath, and putting the staff back in her basket. She’d be calm and composed. She’d already known – this had just been fears, anxieties, and apprehensions confirmed; conforming deeply in the back of her mind for the future. Then she’d be gone back the way she’d came, forging on ahead with everything there was to do. Committed, as ever, to the multitudes.
